While deciding on an article for the blog I found one of the small charts that has many great Bible studies on it. This chart covers many subjects but is about our fruit or “doctrine” that we produce. We will be known by our fruit or doctrine that we are producing on our tree. I have been taught from this chart many times but everytime it is fresh and new again.
As the Bible tells us, “By thy words [doctrine] thy shalt be justified and by thy word [doctrine] thy shalt be condemned.” Matthew 12:37
The title of this chart is “By the fruit [Doctrine] you shall know them and by this your “destiny” is made known.
Each fruit on the tree is in the form of a question and having been taught from this chart as well as many others I can hear the teacher giving us the answers. Also this is the base of the doctrines that we believe and live.
The first piece of fruit is this question:
Is water baptism needed to remove sins or to fulfill Romans 6:3,4,5 and Colossians 2:12.
We know from Acts 2:38,[“Then Peter said unto them, “Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”] that water baptism is needed for remission or removal of the sin we inherited but what do we find in the other verses.
Romans 6:3,4,5 tells us this:
Verse 3: Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into JESUS CHRIST were baptized into His death.
Verse 4: Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as CHRIST was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Verse 5: For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His Resurrection.
Colossians 2:12 “ Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him through the faith [doctrine] of the operation of GOD, who hath raised Him from the dead.”
Baptism is for the remission of sins, which means to take sin away. Yes it is needed for the removal of sin. In order to be baptized we go through the death, burial and resurrection as stated in the above verses by baptism into water. All of the verses are telling us how very necessary to our salvation water baptism is as well as letting us know what water baptism does for us. The benefits of baptism is great and life giving. There are so many more verses on this subject and I know this is not a five minute study but it gets us started on the meaning of baptism and what it is.
There is much more to come with this study so let us have your comments, questions and participate in this study. See how many other verses on baptism we can find.
Instead of looking in the Bible to prove that baptism in the Name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST is not needed let us study to find out why it is necessary. This should apply to all the doctrines that we have to find out why they are needed. Always search out a doctrine to see if it is true before discarding and saying it is not necessary or blindly accepting it because someone told you too.
